Synopsis by Hal Erickson
On this British game show, host Tim Vine presided over some 100 contestants, seated in a semicircle. The contestants were required to answer questions flashed on a huge screen within a ten-second time span. Through the process of elimination, the players were "whittled" down to ten finalists, with four of these secretly singled out by a computer as the likeliest winners (the computer was, to be blunt, not always infallible). The last finalist would attempt to arrange four words, dates, or items in proper sequence for the much-coveted Grand Prize. Based on a French original, Whittle was telecast in the U.K. from 1997 to 1998.
