A young girl with a mentally unstable father must deal with the need to trust her parent and the growing realization of his problem in Where Beans Grow. Hallie's dad wants to build an amusement park on their land in Oklahoma, and the response of the townspeople makes her uncomfortable. Her father's actions are seen as aberrant behavior, and Hallie isn't sure whether to believe them or her dad. Despite his disturbing obsession, Hallie learns to accept his condition, and continues to love and support him.
