Synopsis by Hal Erickson
The old TV game show Press Your Luck was revived and extensively modernized by (who else?) cable's Game Show Network. As in the original program, the contestants were asked a series of general-knowledge questions, then obliged to gamble their earnings on a flashing game-board. Should the contestant pick the "right" computerized image, then he or she was showered with more prizes. But should the player select the animated "whammy," all prizes were lost. In the new version of the series, the "whammy" was even more omnipresent than before, and the humiliation for the losers was accordingly amplified. Whammy! The All New Press Your Luck debuted on April 15, 2002, with Todd Newton (who appeared in the second of two pilot episodes) as host.
