Though the title of this British series might suggest that it somehow unearthed the hitherto unknown crime stories by Evelyn Waugh, in fact the title character was the fictional Inspector Waugh of the CID. Clive Swift starred as the good Inspector, with Robin Chadwick as his assistant, Police Constable White. The careers of Waugh and White were short even by British-TV standards, lasting a mere six half-hour episodes, several of these directed by Doctor Who contributor Tristan De Vere Cole. Waugh on Crime was broadcast from December 4 , 1970 to January 8, 1971.
