Synopsis by Hal Erickson
Organized in 1889, the Grand Order of Water Rats was the official fraternal organization of British music hall entertainers. Prominent among the group's ranks were such legendary entertainers as Dan Leno, George Robey, and Charlie Chaplin. From 1955 onward, the Water Rats organized an annual TV testimonial for the BBC. This project briefly "went weekly" from September 15 to December 1, 1957, with Water Rat Rag, a series of standup-comedy programs featuring the likes of Ted Ray, Charlie Chester, Nat Jackley, Jimmy Wheeler, Cyril Dowler, Vic Oliver, and Jimmy O'Dea.
