Synopsis by Rose of Sharon Winter

Trains have played a significant role in wars, serving as conveyances for moving troops, munitions, and supplies; rolling hospitals to care for and carry the wounded from battle; artillery stations; and strategic bases. This three-volume set chronicles their service to America, starting with the Civil War, and including World Wars I and II, Korea, and Vietnam. Archival film footage, photographs, personal accounts, and scholarly commentary tell the story of global railroad action. The second volume in the three-part series chronicles some of the outstanding missions on which the warhorses were deployed, displaying their awesome power as weapons of war.
