Synopsis by Nathan Southern

As an episode of the war-themed television documentary program Battlefield, War File: Battlefield - Air War Over Germany details the various components of the WWII Allies' air-based assault against Nazi Germany. The program commences by underscoring the fact that the Allies (led by the U.S. and Great Britain) sought to weaken the Nazis by crushing civilian morale for the Reich and aggressively interrupting the production of German war supplies. Their overall strategy involved carrying out a Strategic Bombing Campaign over Europe; while successful, it also killed thousands of civilians and Allied soldiers, prompting a tremendous amount of controversy from observers and critics. This program profiles the military and governmental personnel responsible for the campaign, the strategies employed during the air war, a discussion of the weaponry and strategies involved, and much more, while positing the entire conflict in the larger historical framework of World War II.
