Synopsis by Hal Erickson
This quasi-documentary was the brainchild of Walter Spies, curator of the Bali Museum. The story concerns a young Balinese youth named Wajan, who is regarded with trepidation because he is the son of a tribal witch (Nodonk). After his mother places a curse on the village, prospects for Wajan's romance with local girl Sari seem dim indeed. The authentic locales and costumes are fascinating; the acting from the non-professional cast is less so. Though Walter Spies wasn't much of a showman, he does manage to include a brief flash of female nudity in a couple of scenes, enabling certain enterprising distributors to ballyhoo the film as a girlie show.
