Synopsis by Rose of Sharon Winter
This series, from Australia's public television network, chronicles the story of the physical geography and natural history of the Island Continent. Experts think that the gigantic landmass then broke apart, and the ensuing continental drift formed the Earth's other large landmasses. Computer graphics and nature photography are used to illustrate the story. Interviews with scholars provide the commentary. This episode examines the evolutionary process which brought life out of the ocean and onto land. Vestiges of that process are illustrated by clips of some "living fossils" -- unusual animals that have slipped through time to the present day.
