Synopsis by Ryan Shriver

German filmmaker Andreas Dresen turns his attention toward Germany's political process, as experienced by one youthful candidate over the course of one month's time, in his 2003 documentary, Herr Wichmann von der CDU (Vote for Henryk!). In 2002, Christian Democratic Union party candidate Henryk Wichmann ran for a seat in the German Bundestag, hoping to represent an economically depressed region in Northern Germany. Armed with an arsenal of ideas -- as well as a few gimmicks -- regarding the region's economic woes, Wichmann wages political war with the region's incumbent representative, a political heavyweight named Markus Meckel who had secured a significant majority of votes in the previous election cycle. As Wichmann dives into his campaign, the youthful would-be politician does everything he can in order to secure votes so that he can bring his vision to the legislative body; however, he also begins to understand the distrust and disillusionment many voters feel toward their version of democracy.
