This drama from the U.S.S.R. deals with the issues of defection and political asylum from a perspective of American culture. When Irina (Larisa Polyakova) travels to New York as a part of a Soviet ice dancing tour, she unexpectedly becomes the center of controversy. She hears that her husband, an athlete, has defected to the U.S. and he wants her to defect as well. Her embassy soon puts her on a plane heading back to Moscow. Enter the U.S. Immigration Service, and what ensues are some strange battles between U.S. and Soviet officials in the airport.
