Shooting the film entirely on a split-screen, writer-director Gaspar Noé presents a narrative about an elderly couple living together in an apartment in Paris. The man is a former film critic named Lui (portrayed by Italian filmmaker Dario Argento) in the process of writing a book about cinema as he takes care of his ailing wife. His wife, Elle (Françoise Lebrun), is currently suffering from an advanced state of dementia. The story explores their moments together as they spend their last days of being alive.
