Synopsis by Alice Day
Although many believe the U.S. was not victorious in the Vietnam War, the air war is considered an area where Western forces dominated. In the first of a series of four films, Vietnam: The Air War, Vol. 1 - Target Hanoi, the extensive bombing raids of U.S. fighter pilots are described, as they fly some of the most advanced planes ever used in battle situations. In addition to high-tech jets, the pilots had access to state-of-the-art weaponry and counter-defenses against surface-to-air missiles. On the ground, the enemy was stronger, fitted with defenses built by the Soviet and Chinese governments.
