Synopsis by Clarke Fountain
In Bulgaria, "collective" farms were those which focused on traditional farming methods. They also relied a great deal on communal manual labor. They were called "collectives" because ownership was held in common under the direction of the state. In this movie, "collectives" are becoming a thing of the past, and members are moving either to the city or to work on big, state-run "industrial" farms. One man, whose collective farmed barren, rocky soil, struggles to keep his community alive despite the nearly irresistible lure of modernity.
