Synopsis by Hal Erickson
Created by Nicholas Hyde and Glen Cardno, this British sitcom was set in a large public park, where a chap named Tom (Ken Jones) ruled the roost as head gardener. Accustomed to his longtime coworkers Bodie (Bernard Padden) and Doyle (Bernard Padden), Tom was horrified to learn that his dimwitted godson Max (David Thewlis) had been hired as his assistant. Meanwhile, Max had problems of his own with his wacky landlady Mrs. Giles (Liz Smith), his girlfriend Claire (Katie Newill), and Claire's shrewish mother Maggie (Penny Morrell). Joining the Central Television lineup on June 19, 1987, Valentine Park was originally scheduled in an "adult" prime-time slot. But by the time the 12th and final episode aired on August 26, 1988, the series had moved to an earlier hour to accommodate the children who constituted Valentine Park's largest fan following.
