Synopsis by Janiss Garza

In this political soap opera, Rita Castle (Kitty Gordon) is a woman who has more than her share of hard knocks. She is fired from her job at a department store for refusing the floorwalker's advances. Later, after the death of her mother, she goes to work for lawyer Phidias Trent (Eric Mayne), and she gives into him. After he callously casts her aside, she has a daughter and marries Ralph Christie (George MacQuarrie), a young widower with a little boy. They are happy until he finds out about her past -- then he throws her out and divorces her. She becomes a lobbyist, and when Trent runs for district attorney, she threatens to expose him. But his campaign manager, Val Clement (Frank Beamish) informs her that it will ruin the happiness of her now-grown up daughter, Alicia (Lillian Cook), who has become engaged to Dick (Edward Burns), the son of her ex-husband. Trent wins, and Clement breaks into Rita's home and attacks Alicia. Rita shoots him and is put on trial with Trent as her prosecutor. When she tells Trent that Alicia is his daughter, he begins to have second thoughts. None of it matters, however, because Rita has a heart attack, and as she is dying, she says that Alicia is really the daughter of old friends so that nothing will tarnish her future happiness.
