Synopsis by Janiss Garza

Helen Winthrop (Pauline Frederick) is engaged to Robert Craig (Milton Sills). But her happiness is ruined when her father dies and leaves her a note stating that alcoholism has destroyed the past four generations of the Winthrop family. Worried that she has inherited the bad gene, she breaks up with Craig and visits some friends. She saves the marriage of one of her pals and then attracts the interest of a young man with an overprotective mother. The mother, in an attempt to put a halt to this potential romance, gets in touch with the family lawyer who turns out to be none other than Helen's ex-fiancee. Since somewhere along the way, she's figured out that she doesn't carry the gene of alcoholism, she and Craig are reunited. An ironic note to this film is the fact that it was released right when Prohibition had just taken affect.
