Adapted from a popular stage play of the period, Believe Me, Xantippe was retooled as a vehicle for the even more popular Wallace Reid. The star was cast as George MacFarland, a wealthy young scamp with a thirst for adventure. With the help of an influential friend, MacFarland manages to break the law (and a very minor law at that) so he can spend a year living the life of a fugitive. Soon he tires of this "game," but finds that he cannot escape the wanted posters bearing his likeness which confront him at every turn. Salvation comes in the unlikely form of Dolly Kamman (Ann Little), the daughter of a sheriff who has sworn to bring in MacFarland dead or alive.
