Synopsis by Jason Buchanan
One fateful act of violence creates a series of tragic ripples in this three-part drama from acclaimed filmmaker Srdan Golubovic (The Trap). The story begins as a Serbian soldier named Marco arrives in his Bosnian hometown on leave from the war. What should have been a happy homecoming turns quickly tragic, however, when Marco attempts to defend a humble Muslim shopkeeper named Haris from three menacing soldiers, and pays the ultimate price for being a hero. A little more than a decade later the war has ended. Marco's father is restoring a run-down church when he is approached by Bogdan, who is desperate to find work. When Marco realizes that Bogdan's father was one of Marco's killers, he faces a difficult dilemma. Concurrently, prominent surgeon Nabobs is presented with a patient in Belgrade who turns out to be one of Marco's killers. An old friend of Marco's, Nabobs wrestles with his conscience after initially refusing to perform a life-saving operation on the man. Later, in Germany, Marco's widow tracks down Haris in Germany, and pleads with him to provide her sanctuary in her most desperate hour.
