Synopsis by Mark Deming
Three friends on the wrong side of the law plan one last score in this action drama from Moroccan filmmaker Faouzi Bensaidi. Soufiane (Mouchcine Malzi) is an eighteen-year-old who makes a living swiping wallets, and he's close friends with Malik (Fehd Benchemsi), a small-time burglar in his mid-twenties and Allal (Fouad Labiad), a thirty-something former drug pusher. Soufiane has fallen for Dounia (Imane Mechrafi), a beautiful night club dancer who also works as a prostitute, and when she ends up in jail, he makes a deal with a crooked police detective, Inspector Debbouz (Faouzi Bensaidi) that involves setting up his own uncle. While the scheme buys Dounia her freedom, it also leads to a tragedy in Soufiane's family, and when he starts planning a big money job that will allow him to walk away from the criminal life, he brings Malik and Allal to help. Death For Sale was an official selection at the 2011 Toronto International Film Festival.
