Synopsis by Nathan Southern
History took a dark turn on April 22, 2010; that was the day British Petroleum's Deepwater Horizon offshore drilling rig sank into the Gulf of Mexico, spreading an estimated 779,037,744 liters of crude oil and over 7 million liters of chemical dispersants into the world's oceans. Unsurprisingly , it went down as the single worst oil spill in history and one of the most extreme environmental crises in history. In The Big Fix, co-directors Josh Tickell and Rebecca Tickell set out to examine the causes of this disaster and uncover a widespread network of corruption, ultimately tracing it to a network of oligarchic corruption that puts money and power far ahead of the needs of people and the environment.
