Synopsis by Mark Deming

A young woman's life goes from one desperate situation to another in this powerful drama from director Gerardo Chijona Valdes. It's 1993, and Cuba has been thrown into an economic tailspin after the fall of the Soviet Union. Poverty is rampant, but that's the least of the problems facing Eunice (Miriel Cejas), a pretty teenage girl who has become the focus of her widowed father's sexual desires. Desperate to get away, Eunice steals some cash and hits the road, hitching a ride with anyone who can take her far away. Eunice falls in with Alejandro (Hector Medina), Fito (Fabian Mora) and Lidia (Dunia Matos), three street kids who have abandoned their families and live on the road, supporting themselves through petty crime. While they live a desperate lifestyle, Eunice feels a kinship with her new friends that she never knew at home and she finds herself falling for Alejandro. Desperate for a place of their own, Eunice and Alejandro strike upon an idea when they happen upon Milena (Ariadna Munoz), his former girlfriend who has been staying in a facility for AIDS patients. Boleto al Paraiso (aka Ticket To Paradise) was an official selection at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival.
