Synopsis by Jason Buchanan
Discover the woman behind the legend in this biographical portrait of famed Portuguese vocalist Amália Rodrigues. Set in the fall of 1984, Amália finds the beloved diva at the height of her fame. But all is not well; Amália is still haunted over being separated from her parents when she was just a young girl, and tormented by the fact that her mother barely acknowledged the death of her sister. Flashing back to her formative years, Amália recalls her romance with aspiring guitarist Francisco Cruz, and her first brush with fame following a failed marriage. As Amália ascended to fame, she entered into a passionate romance with playboy tennis star Eduardo Ricciardi, and began a torrid affair with Ricardo Espirito Santo, a married banker whom she believed to be her soul mate. Later marrying Brazilian engineer Cesar Seabra, the celebrated singer then endured a tempestuous period marked by family problems and political controversy before making a triumphant return to the stage during Portugal's Carnation Revolution.
