Synopsis by Nathan Southern
This Japanese-language drama opens during World War II, when a fatal battle erupts at sea between a Japanese submarine and an American destroyer. Just before piloting his vessel to the vanguard of the conflict, the submarine's captain, Kuramoto, receives an unusual present from his lover Shiduko: the score to a song called 'Manatsu no Orion.' The film then moves forward 64 years in time, when the couple's granddaughter happens to discover that long lost score and finds that it has tremendous personal significance for her.
