Synopsis by Mark Deming
A woman finds her new beau is a bit too much like her old lover in this drama from Egypt. Mai (Basma) is a beautiful woman who has found love with Ayman (Nabil Eissa), but neither of them counted on the ruthlessness of his brother Mohamed (Asser Yassin), an unstable drug addict. Mohamed tries to steal a ring Ayman has purchased for Mai, and in the scuffle between the two brothers, Ayman is accidentally killed. Mai is shattered by the death of her fiancé, and she is mired deep in mourning until she meets Yasser (Ahmed El Fishawy), a handsome actor. Mai discovers new happiness with Yasser, but as their relationship blossoms, she notices that the landmarks in their life together bear a strange resemblance to the times she spent with Ayman, and her joy gives way to a disturbing feeling of déjà vu. Zay El Naharda (aka On A Day Like Today) was the first feature film from writer and director Amr Salama.
