Synopsis by Nathan Southern
Four disparate characters - bound only by a shared feeling of being down-and-out - spend the Christmas holiday in a most unusual manner when they find themselves thrust onto a gorgeous tropical island together, in Kang Choel-woo's romantically-charged ensemble drama Romantic Island. Su-jin (Lee Soo-kyeong) suffers from a miserable family and depressing workplace and desperately needs the escape; on the island, she meets the wealthy but ill-tempered Kang Jae-hyeok (Lee Seon-gyun) and attempts to both win his heart and turn him around. Meanwhile, Jae-hyuk (Lee Seon-gyon) , though a CEO, must contend with a layoff because his radical decisions have alienated his company's board of directors. When he learns of his beloved yet estranged father's death, he high-tails it to the island to escape. Alongside these stories, two additional threads surface - one involving a romance between unemployed, washed-up Jeong-hwan (Lee Min-ki) and pop singer Ga-young (Yoo Jin), and a dynamic that transpires between a wife and a deeply dissatisfied, suicide-prone husband. One by one, these characters with virtually nothing in common will embark on individual journeys of self-discovery, abetted and enriched by their interaction with one another.
