This animated adventure for children represents one of the first cinematic treatments of a long-running Belgian television franchise about the adventures of the colorful Piet Piraat, or Pirate Pete, and his band of motley adventurers. As an intriguing footnote: though Piet Piraat En De Betoverde Kroon was initially produced and released in August 2005, it kept screening at Belgian theaters for years after that initial debut, at one point checking in at its 180th week in cinemas! It was also followed by a number of sequels, beginning with Pirate Pete and His Flying Ship the following year.
