Synopsis by Mark Deming

A troubled teenager finds it hard to turn away from the anger and alienation that has defined his life in this drama from Italy. Jimmy (Nicola Adamo) is a bitter and rebellious young man who has been growing up in a small Sardinian town where an oil refinery controls the local economy. Jimmy wants nothing to do with the oil business that has strangled the life out of his family and friends, and instead falls in with a band of low-level criminals until a robbery goes sour and his comrades turn him in to the police. Jimmy does not adjust well to life in prison, and develops a deep hatred for his cellmate Salvo (Giovanni Cantarella); Jimmy plans to murder him, but his nerve fails him and he instead attempts suicide. Don Ettore (Francesco Origo), chaplain at the prison, recognizes Jimmy as a soul in crisis and arranges for him to take part in a special program for underage offenders at risk. Moved to a new facility called La Collina, Jimmy works with a building crew during the day and has regular meetings with Claudia (Valentina Carnelutti), a social worker; Jimmy is hesitant to communicate with the staff at La Collina, and shows little trust for Claudia until he learns that she's a ex-con whose story is not so different from his own. Jimmy Della Collina (aka Jimmy Of The Hill) was screened in competition at the 2006 Locarno Film Festival.
