Synopsis by Mark Deming

A young boy's imagination goes into overdrive when he learns he'll soon have a sibling in this comedy drama from Italy. Sergio (Davide Veronese) is the nine-year-old son of a couple (Pietro Bontempo and Maria Paiato) whose marriage has been going through a rough patch. While Sergio gets along well enough with other kids, he doesn't mind spending time on his own, and has a habit of spinning elaborate tales inside his head. After a quarrelsome period, Sergio's folks learn that they're going to have another baby, and hoping it will help patch up their relationship, they share the news with their boy. Sergio, however, is not at all happy to hear this, and he begins entertaining strange fantasies of how his new brother or sister will make his life miserable, and how he can turn the tables on the new arrival. My Brother's Summer (aka L'Estate di Mio Fratello) was the first feature film from writer and director Pietro Reggiani.
