Former Universal leading lady Priscilla Dean starred in this contemporary comedy-Western as an Eastern golf pro hired by a Western dude ranch. Assumed to be a man because of the name, Freddy Hayden (Dean) creates a sensation appearing at a dance in the newest creation from Paris and later earns the enmity of all and sundry when she mistakenly causes a stampede. In love with the girl, ranch foreman Bruce Elwood (Arnold Gray, formerly Arnold Gregg) is at first treated with disdain by the lady. That changes, however, after he rescues Freddy from a notorious cattle rustler. A top Universal star of the late 1910s, Priscilla Dean's career was very much on the wane when she did this mild comedy. The following year, she played a foil to Laurel and Hardy in Slipping Wives and her career was, for all intents and purposes, over. Based on a 1926 Blue Book Magazine story by Wallace Smith, West of Broadway had nothing to do with the 1931 John Gilbert starrer of the same name.
