Synopsis by Rose of Sharon Winter
This program features a portrait of Italian film director Luchino Visconti. The cultivated Visconti brought to the screen such literary masterpieces as Thomas Mann's Death in Venice and Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa's The Leopard. Interviews with friends, family, and colleagues give insight into the life and works of this complex director of theater and cinema. Marcello Mastroianni and Claudia Cardinale are two of the many film stars who fondly recall their time with the great director.
