Although no longer in the bloom of youth, legendary female impersonator Julian Eltinge was still plying his famous trade in this raucous silent farce from genre specialist Al Christie. Eltinge plays Jack Mitchell, a Broadway man-about-town rooming with Dick Corwin (David James). After failing to pay their rent, the boys are faced with eviction by pompous landlord M.T. House (Jack Duffy). Dragged into court, Jack and Dick learn that a mystery woman may decide the outcome of the trial. Dick's lawyer (Stanhope Wheatcroft) urges him to marry the woman, since a wife cannot testify against her husband, but no one can find her. House overhears the scheme and decides to marry the woman himself. Jack, meanwhile, is mistaken for a burglar, but evades the law by masquerading as a woman. House then mistakes Jack for the missing witness, "Madame Behave," and one farcical situation follows another. In the end, the redoubtable Mr. House sees the error of his ways and the two heroes marry their respective girlfriends (Ann Pennington and Evelyn Francisco).
