While Ouida Bergere's story isn't terribly original, good acting made this drama a worthwhile feature. Stephen Martin (Edwin Arden) becomes a millionaire when he inherits his brother's factories. He disinherits his son, Tom (Forrest Winant), because he has married a penniless girl, Grace (Helene Chadwick). Martin is just as stern and tough with his employees. He has moved to the city to oversee operations and the workers rebel against his harshness. Adventuress Anne Parbell (Leonore Harris), who takes over his social affairs, finds Martin's weak spot and causes him to separate from his devoted wife (Gertrude Berkeley). Finally Martin gets his just reward -- his employees strike and his factories burn to the ground. Though he is left broke and friendless, his wife and son are willing to take him back once they see that he has changed and is no longer the ogre he once was.
