Synopsis by Clarke Fountain
The stylish, grisly and anarchistic elements of film noir are enthusiastically incorporated into this macabre, somewhat surrealistic Japanese drama. Nami Tuchiya (Kimiko Yo) has had just about all she want to endure of her abusive sex partner, and she has a plan for ending their relationship. First, she pretends to be a tourist in Tokyo and hires Jiro Kurenai (Naoto Takenaka), a carefully selected patsy: ostensibly he is to be her guide. After she checks into her hotel, she awaits the arrival of her much-detested boyfriend, and, after a session of sadistic foreplay of the sort he favors, she does away with him in a particularly grisly fashion, then departs the scene. The next morning her guide arrives at her hotel room to take her on a tour of Tokyo and he discovers the corpse (and that his client is missing) and sets out to find her. What he finds is far more trouble than he ever imagined existed.
