Four junior officers, each representing a different Federation species, undergo the grueling Enterprise promotion evaluation process. As part of the competition, three of the four candidates are dispatched on a top secret mission. In the end, it all boils down to whether or not duty is more important than friendship. Dan Gauthier, Shannon Till, Alexander Enberg and Patti Yasutake guest star as candidates Lavelle, Sito, Torak, and Ogawa.
