Students go from the carefree life into the army in this wartime comedy drama. The boys enjoy rare moments of levity before they are called to march into battle. Cinematographer Pyotr Todorovsky makes his directorial debut with this feature that was shown at the 1965 Venice Film Festival. He would later receive an Oscar nomination in 1984 for "Best Foreign Film" with Wartime Romance.
