Synopsis by Clarke Fountain
This Argentine film is either telling a dangerous political story in an allegorical manner, or is simply surrealistic and nonsensical. In either case, it tells of an upper-class family whose inner dynamics are exposed during the evening meal. As time goes by, these mealtime gatherings grow less and less conventional and polite, often degenerating into food fights. Certain other topics are touched on, such as incest, desecration of mother figures, and so on. The family members are all apparently waiting for someone named Hallewyn to appear at their meals.
