Synopsis by Hans J. Wollstein
A national treasure, Der Var Engang (Once Upon a Time), staged here with a case of the "cutes" by royal actor John Price, is really a hoary old fairytale about a noble-but-rejected suitor who disguises himself as a highwayman and kidnaps the haughty princess. Danish poet Holger Drachman wrote the romantic nonsense apparently in a moment of national fervor, but its only lasting contribution to modern Danish life is the still popular "Midsummer Anthem."
