Geraldine Farrar wasn't the only opera diva to star in silent pictures; Lina Cavalieri was brought to the screen by Paramount in an unsuccessful attempt to rival Farrar's popularity. Leonora (Cavalieri) and her sister Nina (Gertrude Robinson) are the children of a poor family, and when their parents die, they are adopted by Mr. and Mrs. Stuart (J. Clarence Handysides and Matilda Brundage, respectively). Leonora is able to study and develop her beautiful voice, and in time becomes prima donna La Vecci. She is romanced by a jealous Spaniard, Count Nerval (Raymond Bloomer). His American cousin Phillip (Robert Cain) also shows an interest in Leonora so Nerval insists that they get married. Nina, meanwhile, falls in love with Dr. Paul Spencer (Leslie Austern) aboard ship. Phillip's family invites the sisters and the Count to visit their New Orleans estate and they do. Since Phillip didn't have any luck with Leonora, he tries for Nina. When Leonora gets involved by trying to talk to Phillip, a struggle ensues. She faints and when she awakens, he is dead. Leonora is viewed suspiciously until a Creole girl, Cleo (Corinne Uzzell) comes forth and admits that she committed the crime out of jealousy. This picture was adapted from a play by Louis K.
