Eschewing her usual "vamp" characterization, Valeska Suratt plays a wronged woman during the first three reels of The Straight Way. But the producers, knowing what the fans expected, arranged for Surratt to resume her patented seductive wiles in Reel Four. Hoping to dissuade her sister-in-law from an adulterous affair, loyal wife and mother Mary Madison (Suratt) succeeds only in breaking up her own marriage. Losing her memory in a railroad accident, Mary adopts a totally different personality, becoming a craven adventuress. She enters into a scheme to wreak vengeance upon a merciless judge, never realizing that her victim-to-be is her own husband. The sight of her own sweet little daughter snaps Mary back to her senses, while her husband, realizing how wrong he's been, welcomes her back with open arms.
