Synopsis by Janiss Garza
Tsing Yu-Chi'ing (Togo Yamamoto) comes to America to bring Western wisdom back to his native China. While living in New York's Chinatown he falls in love with a blind white girl, Kathleen Levinsky (Mabel Ballin). Since she can't see him, the harsh racial prejudices of the 1920s don't affect her and she loves him back. But when a surgeon (Rockcliffe Fellowes) restores her sight, she can't stand the sight of him, so he keeps his identity a secret, returns home and commits suicide. Yamamoto's work pales next to that of his contemporary, Sessue Hayakawa. This picture was adapted from a magazine story, "The Honorable Gentleman," by Achmed Abdullah.
