Synopsis by Hal Erickson

One of the most novel aspects of Magdalene of the Hills was that, while it was set in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, the story contains not a single hint of a hillbilly feud. Instead, the plot focuses on Renie Mathis (Mabel Taliaferro), the daughter of a lumber man (Frank Montgomery). Despotic rival logger Grayson (William Black hopes to purchase the old man's property, and to expedite this Grayson dispatches his nephew Bud (William B. Davidson to the Tall Timbers. While Bud makes little headway with Mathis Sr., he does falls in love with Renie. As a result, Bud decides to defy his Uncle and cast his lot with Renie. Because both of the old lumber men are opposed to the romance between Renie and Bud, the youngsters are forced to keep their marriage a secret--and it is upon this tried-and-true plot device that the rest of the story hinges.
