Synopsis by Jonathan Crow
Renowned Russian director Alexander Sokurov creates this uncharacteristically straightforward documentary about legendary author and Soviet dissident Alexander Solzhenitsyn. The film is essentially an extended interview with the literary figure about his experiences in the Gulag, his 18-year exile in the United States, the state of Russian culture, and self-understanding. Uzel was screened at the 1999 Mill Valley Film Festival.
