Kazuhiko has seen Kaori at school for a long time, and thought nothing of her much. This all changes when, as a derisive joke, he plucks her bra strap one day. Suddenly, his attitude towards her changes, as does hers for him. Neither one receives any helpful advice or encouragement from their parents, when they reveal their involvement with each other. Perhaps their parents don't take it all very seriously. However, this first love inspires them to all sorts of flights of romantic fancy, as they imagine themselves to be like Romeo and Juliet, or the couple in the tragic legend of Tanabata. Though tragedy does eventually befall their relationship, it has nothing to do with these romantic stories, and in fact has nothing to do with romance at all.
