Synopsis by Clarke Fountain
On his deathbed, an old Rumanian farmer revisits his life. Before World War II, he lived happily with his wife, his son and daughter. The daughter is engaged to be married, but her fiancé and her brother both go off to war. When the son is reported killed, the father will not believe it, insisting that he will return someday. Meanwhile, the daughter's fiancé returns, minus both his legs. Distraught at this turn of events, the girl kills herself, and the farmer and his wife become near-hermits as they await their dead son's return.
