This program is part of a series that examines some of the most unusual events and people that were part of the World War II experience. The stories are told using archival film footage, photographs, personal accounts, and scholarly commentary. This episode concerns the use by the Nazis of the swastika as the symbol of the Third Reich. The program reaches into ancient mythology and the Tibetan and Indian religions to discover the origin and meaning of this symbol, and its adaptation by the Aryan occultist known as Thule. The reversal of the arms on the swastika was a chilling indication of Nazi contempt for and perversion of this ancient symbol of peace.
