Synopsis by Rose of Sharon Winter

This program is part of a series that examines some of the most unusual events and people that were part of the World War II experience. The stories are told using archival film footage, photographs, personal accounts, and scholarly commentary. This episode relates the story of the unsuccessful plot to kill Hitler. Some of the Fuhrer's closest advisors saw that their leader was in a state of mental decline that was making things worse for Germany, and planned to kill him. But the attaché case containing a bomb was put in the wrong place, and Hitler survived. The plot's architects were then the ones with a death sentence on their heads.
