Synopsis by Eleanor Mannikka
This documentary on immigrant families from countries like Spain and Turkey as they adjust to life in Switzerland divides the world of the immigrant into two parts. The first segment concentrates on why families left their countries of origin and what they hope to achieve as they begin their search for a niche in a new culture with a different language and different social customs. The second segment handles the challenges the foreign children face as they struggle to adapt to new schools, friends, and learning methods and materials, in contrast with their own way of life at home. Regardless of the hardships each immigrant faces, the consensus seems to be that the new country and its possibilities for advancement is preferable over their country of origin (often with an unstable economic, social, or political environment).
