Synopsis by Janiss Garza

This stage melodrama stretches credulity to its utmost limits! While walking through a poor section of town, wealthy Arthur Kellogg (Gladden James) meets an actress with the delightfully post-Victorian name of Tryphena Winters, and her kid sister, Salome. He saves the girls from starvation and promptly falls in love with Tryphena. Unfortunately, Arthur happens to be the son of a stern theatrical financier (Anders Randolph) who does not approve of the match. When the money man can convince neither Arthur nor Tryphena to halt their romance, he disowns his son. But then he finds out that Tryphena desperately wants to be on the stage and calls a meeting with the couple, offering to fulfill her wish as long as she forgets Arthur. Tryphena agrees, but she has sent Arthur a note telling him not to believe anything she says during the meeting. Unfortunately, Arthur never gets it so he tells her good-bye and heads for the nearest bar. The father, dismayed that he has turned his boy into a drunk, kills himself. One night Arthur goes to the theater where Tryphena is starring. Finally he receives the long-lost note and after reading it, he halts the performance to ask Tryphena about it. The curtain comes down while they settle their differences, and once they've reunited Tryphena continues her performance.
