Synopsis by Hal Erickson

One of a handful of original programs produced by the Turner Classic Movies cable service, Under the Influence featured contemporary film actors, introducing their favorite celluloid classics and describing the impact that the movies in question had on their lives and careers. In the opener, Jeff Daniels discoursed on The Miracle of Morgan's Creek; in later installments, William H. Macy praised Dr. Strangelove, John Turturro waxed poetic over On the Waterfront, James Woods exulted over From Here to Eternity, and Nathan Lane hosannahed To Kill a Mockingbird. Shown irregularly in varying-length time slots, usually during such theme nights as "Weapons of Mass Destruction," "Unplanned Pregnancy," and "Starring Burt Lancaster," Under the Influence debuted October 4, 2003.
